CANCER-FIGHTING SMOOTHIE OR BOWL

Topped with our delicious  Buckwheat Power Snacks

Makes Two 2-cup servings

Add to your blender in the following order and blend until smooth

½ cup red grapes or 1 peeled and seeded orange

1 cup frozen or fresh blueberries

1 cup unsweetened organic soymilk (reduce liquid for a smoothie bowl)

1/2 cup cold green tea (brew ahead and keep in the refrigerator)

2 cups, loosely packed greens (kale, collard, spinach, or power greens)

2 stalks celery, roughly chopped

1-2 medjool dates, pitted (optional for extra sweetness) 

1 tablespoons ground flax seed

1 tablespoon hemp seeds

1 tablespoon lemon juice (juice from 1/2 lemon)

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder or one-inch fresh turmeric root

Small grind of black pepper (or to taste)

1. Serve by itself or as a smoothie bowl with  our delicious Buckwheat Power Snacks (any flavor) and your choice of rolled oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, dried fruit and chunks of fresh fruit.

CANCER-FIGHTING PROPERTIES OF THESE INGEDIENTS

 Orange – Vitamin C helps protect cells from oxidative damage, support immune function, and inhibit cancer growth. It also tastes amazing with the other ingredients.

Red Grapes – Various phytochemicals – namely resveratrol, anthocyanins have anti-cancer properties

Apples – Vitamin C, Quercetin to inhibit cancer growth, fiber for bowels, pectin for prebiotic

Blueberries – rich in purple anthocyanins can neutralize free radicals & reduce oxidative stress.

Celery - contains phytonutrients that have been shown to decrease risk of oxidative damage 

Soymilk – contains isoflavones to block estrogen receptors to reduce hormone cancer risk

Green Tea – Rich in flavonoids that help heart function. Anti-Angiogenesis- shown to prevent new blood vessels from forming to feed cancer cells

Dates – Source of potassium and is an amazing natural, whole food sweetener with fiber

Kale – Fiber, helps body get rid of excess hormones that drive cancer, anti-angiogenesis

Hemp Seeds – great source of whole food plant-based protein and source of omega-3 fatty acids

Flax Seeds – lignans to reduce infammation, cleansing fiber and source of omega-3 fatty acids

Lemon – cleansing to the body, vitamin C, natural preservative

Turmeric – curcumin (antioxidant) reduces inflammation and may inhibit pathways involved in cancer development.

Black Pepper – piperine aids turmeric’s absorption 2000 percent. 1 part pepper to 12 parts turmeric
